World’s Best Still Life Realists: CORONEL, PYLE, SLOUHA, PRUYS, STRASKA, KOPENHAFER, QINGSHENG, CADORETTE, NAKRASAS, GURBAJ, JACKSON, GANG, SUNG, LOTOS, ALSARRAF / 2022 AMERICAN ART AWARDS Winners
20 of USA’s Best Galleries & Museums vote in the AMERICAN ART AWARDS, arguably the most prestigious online art competition. In 2022, painters, sketchers, digital artists, photographers and sculptors from 69 countries submitted JPEGs for the 50 categories — to win gallery affiliation, career launch, high scores, great press and/or $5,000 in prizes.
Here are the winners in CATEGORY 37, REALISM — STILL LIFE.
1st Place Bio: Edward Coronel
A a self-taught visual artist, he graduated as a physicist at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. Throughout his professional career in science and technology, he maintained his artistic endeavors then decided to fully focus on his craft in 2006. He started from figurative abstractions and veered towards realism in 2019.
Coronel’s FREEDOM (36”x48” oil painting on canvas) is his homage to two prominent artistic traditions: Still Life and Pop Art. He traverses both genres through this piece- a homage to the timelessness of figurative expressions, and an inquiry into our popular cultural reality.
1st Place Bio: Dan Pyle
Working exclusively in charcoal, Dan uses a realistic style that mimics photography to the point that his drawings are often mistaken for photos. He loves shadows, contrast, anonymity and using negative space in his compositions. Dan’s gifted eye catches timeless fragments of life in his work — -whether it’s the intricate lines of the human hand, the delicate folds of a garment, or a tarnished piece of silver, they are drawn in detailed simplicity.
With virtually no formal training, Dan has been drawing since childhood. His internationally award-winning work has been displayed in art shows and galleries in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Pasadena, Palm Springs, Provincetown, New York and throughout Europe. His clientele extends to other countries, such as Canada, Malaysia and Australia. Dan’s work has been published in many art magazines and books, and two collections of his drawings are permanently installed in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, as part of their impressive art collection. His art has been displayed on digital billboards, on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and also in New York’s Times Square.
Dan’s work celebrates his relentless enthusiasm for detail, through a vast collection of subject matter. From muscular figures, to distressed objects from the past, he continues to challenge perfection. http://danpyleartist.com/
