20 of USA’s Best Galleries & Museums vote in the AMERICAN ART AWARDS, arguably the most prestigious online art competition. In 2022, painters, sketchers, digital artists, photographers and sculptors from 69 countries submitted JPEGs for the 50 categories — to win gallery affiliation, career launch, high scores, great press and/or $5,000 in prizes.

Here are the winners in CATEGORY 26, NAIVE — FIGURE.

1st Place Bio: Valeriu

After graduating University where I studied art I began my career as a book designer and during ten years illustrated many books, posters and other publications. Later I decided to try oil painting and since 2001 as a free lance artist I began regularly expose artworks art galleries in Europe, USA and Australia. https://www.facebook.com/valeriu.buev/

1st Place Bio: William Francis Brennan

Born in 1949 in Massachusetts / USA, he started painting at age 10 and continued all his life long as a self-taught artist.

1970–1980 he lived in Toronto/Canada.

In 1980 he moved to San Francisco, CA and worked as a freelanced artist, handyman and restored furniture. He resided there for 28 years. During the years 2001–2008 he extended his creative work: He built furniture out of driftwood, designed and built the stage sets of the theatre project ‘Behind closed doors’ and painted several murals.

Since August 2008 he lives and works as an artist permanently in Berlin, Germany and later in the suburbs near Berlin. His ‘Berlin-work’ is dominated by colorful playfulness and freshness. He often does not remain within one style. From painting to painting / from work group to work group it can happen that he “… bounces around„ within impressionism, expressionism, realism and pop art.” He prefers keeping himself flexible, versatile and experimental and having fun with painting.

Many abstract compositions are developed through intuitive experience of colors and contrasts, are defined through an expressionistic variety of colors and many abstract compositions are often the result of an experimental artistic journey.

William often prefers not to title his painting… “a name / a title is reducing a painting, … is manipulating the viewer …”. The viewer has the opportunity to play with the own imagination…. there is a lot to see, to explore and to find within his paintings. “Often I like to suggest or spark an idea / a thought … and leave the conclusion up to the viewer. In that process I can direct the attention of the viewer to whatever it is…. / guide the viewer’s thoughts …”

Over the years he participated internationally in several group- duo- and solo exhibitions and his paintings are sold within the USA and Canada, to Japan and within Europe, and received many awards for his artistic work. www.william-francis-brennan.com
