At an early age, RA Powell was inspired by his uncle, a New York Commercial Artist, to explore the artistic world of creativity through art. Powell’s beginnings in art started with drawing cartoons and lettering. He further developed his talents in the field of art and attended Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida, where he studied Architectural Engineering and Fine Arts. Powell’s talent as an artist were widely recognized within the business community and by individual collectors.

In 2015, Powell set out on an artistic journey to express his appreciation and admiration of the world of Hip-Hop. He donned the moniker, the Artist of Hip Hop, and over a two-year span drew more than 100 hip-hop artists in his ebony pencil “Hip-Hop Royalty Collection”. (https://www.raartpublishing.com/hip-hop-royalty-collection). With each artist, he challenged himself to create a more life-like drawing that looks as if it could speak to the viewer. Throughout this collection, he also built a strong social media presence and his artwork has been tweeted and followed by Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Universal Hip Hop Museum and several artists in the world of Hip Hop.

In 2017, his talents garnered him 3rd place in the American Art Awards competition in the category of Portrait of Someone Famous. He was also featured in an article in the Huffington Post. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/worlds-best-celebrity-portrait-artists-sky-schmitt_us_59e95035e4b04a400db8b02b?ncid=engmodushpmg00000003). His work was recently displayed at the Tubman Museum in Macon, GA. His latest collection “Colors” features bold and bright colored abstract art will be featured in his first solo art show in the summer of 2019 at the Tubman Museum.
