BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER: Linda Irwin / Photorealist painter from Calgary Alberta Canada. I promote Fine Art Realism, working mainly in
Acrylics and Mixed Media. I like to experiment painting on different surfaces, ie glass, tile, and varied types of wood. I have also incorporated resin in some of my pieces.
I started painting in 2016, after attending a ‘Paint Night’ with a co-worker, at a local bar. This unleashed a passion and talent that I had been unaware of. Initially self-taught, I have also studied with numerous local Art Teachers, the most recent being David Kitler, a local Wildlife Artist.
A recent Commission to paint a memorial tribute to a friend’s beloved pet, has blossomed into a passion for Pet Portraiture. Seeing the joy and happiness a customer feels when they receive my tribute to their beloved pet makes this all worthwhile. It is the most rewarding part of this whole adventure!
I love the challenge of recreating photos, either that I have taken myself, or that other photographers allow me to use. I try to improve on the photo by capturing the personality of the subject and increasing the detail and accuracy. Photorealism is challenging. Being able to recreate an image and improve on it, is rewarding and fulfilling. I love the detail and accuracy
required with this painting style. www.lindairwinartist.com
