BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER: Tatjana Cechun
I was born in the capital of a small Baltic country into a family of artists and I believe that I received my main master class at home.
I strive to combine the pictorial direction of the “little Dutchmen” with modern realism. Combine “eternity and a moment” on one canvas: ancient and expensive utensils next to fresh flowers and fruits. I’m trying to show that in this world at a certain period of time there can be something that will remain with us forever, and something that will disappear without a trace.
I try to create mood and atmosphere using the power of color, contrast and lighting. I have a very vivid imagination, I can just close my eyes and imagine the finished composition. Of course, the human brain creates images from personal experience and what it has once seen. Sometimes I remember where I saw the part, and I start looking again and studying the nuances. And of course, I constantly learn from other artists: ideas of compositions, color solutions, sense of form, manner of transmitting light… This helps me develop and I always hope that the next painting will be better and more interesting than the previous one.
My husband and I work in the same studio-workshop, so I always have a consultant, a teacher and a strict art critic next to me. Realism is a very complex technique that requires a lot of time, knowledge and skills. Simply using your imagination is not enough; you need to accurately understand the laws of nature and images.
I hope that through my painting people will be able to see the world through my eyes, my feelings and my colors. https://www.facebook.com/Art-Chechun/
