BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER:
Theresa Poalucci is an accomplished artist, whose life journey has spanned across various states, enriching her artistic vision with diverse cultural experiences. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she soon moved to the West Coast, where she spent her formative years in California and her working painting — in particular creating art with pixels, rather than with a paintbrush. Theresa’s artistic journey is deeply influenced by her mother’s self-taught artistry and her youngest daughter’s talent for sculpture. Now residing in Tucson, Arizona, she has embraced the vibrant desert landscape, which significantly influences her work.
Her passion for art began to blossom later in life during her career in the publishing industry, where she started work as a lead graphic artist. Her background in graphic design, spanning over 50 years, has provided her with a solid foundation in digital art, a medium in which she now feels most at home.
Nature serves as the primary inspiration for Theresa’s work. The transition from Seattle to Tucson ignited a newfound excitement for the sunlight and colors of the desert. These elements are reflected in her most current art. Theresa chooses subjects native to her environment, often incorporating animals to evoke emotions such as joy, awe, and pleasure. Her technique has evolved through extensive experience with both traditional and digital tools.
An active member of several artist organizations, including the Southern Arizona Arts Guild and American Women Artists, Theresa continues to engage with the artistic community as a volunteer as well as an artist. Her mission is to create art that brings happiness to others, much like raising a child and sending it out into the world to hopefully do good.
