BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER: Waldemar Tłuczek — an artist with a wide range of creativity — painter, graphic artist, illustrator.

He is one of the most talented avant-garde artists, a restless romantic spirit, a bit of a philosopher, a seeker of truth… “my painting is a reflection of my soul, which knows many dark, but also light colors, the bitter and sweet taste that life has.”

Born behind the Iron Curtain, overwhelmed by the prose of life in a closed country, he goes to Germany in search of a better life. He is accepted into the artistic world of Dusseldorf and Cologne, where he creates and makes a living from this work, takes part in exhibitions and fulfills orders. He completed his artistic studies by becoming a free student of the Kunstschule in Dusseldorf.

He is not a “prolific” artist; he likes to create personal paintings with themes drawn from emotions, experiences and thoughts. His creative process is slow, taking several weeks or even months to complete a painting. Often dissatisfied with his work, he destroys the painting.

He is able to use the brush to achieve complex color combinations, and although he works mostly in the medium of oil paint, he applies it many times in thin layers of color to achieve a watercolor effect. This is a long technological process due to the long drying time of oil paint. He is praised for his many painting styles and directions, from realism, avant-garde, conceptualism, symbolism and magical realism.

In search of inspiration, he travels around Europe by bicycle. He draws inspiration from nature, although its source lies in the subconscious, which places the artist’s work between “wakefulness and sleep”, which deprives it of its location in time and makes it universal regardless of the passage of time. https://www.instagram.com/waldemartluczek_waldzior/
