Artists from 58 countries competed in the 2025 WORLD ART AWARDS where 20 of the most revered galleries in the world were sent online images to score in drawing, painting, sculpture, digital and photography. The 300+ winning works, 1st to 6th Place (and ties) in all 50 categories, will be revealed in this column one category at a time, and also an upcoming movie.

The WINNERS in CATEGORY 13. EXPRESSIONISM — OTHER represent
HONG KONG, LITHUANIA, UK, USA, SERBIA, SPAIN, AUSTRIA, FRANCE & GERMANY.

BIO of 1st Place winner Ann Petite:

A full-time chemist from Hong Kong, her work draws profound inspiration from the microscopic world. With a keen eye for detail, she meticulously observes micro-scaled living organisms, transforming scientific exploration into vivid visual narratives. Each artwork is a testament to the intricate beauty hidden within the unseen.

“I’m always looking at tiny living stuff — microscopic critters and cells. My creations come from mixing those up, playing around with what I see under the microscope until they turn into something new. It’s like I’m experimenting, trying to make my own way of showing what’s down there at that level.

That’s where my little postman, Ann in a red cap, comes in. I picture people as these lonely little planets, floating out there in a cold, quiet microscopic universe. She wanders through it all, delivering bits of my work to you.

My landscapes breathe with life, shaped by repeating strokes and patterns — like nature’s own reactions unfolding. They grow into an endless garden, one I’m always nurturing, piecing together as its gardener. And there’s Ann, wandering its paths, red cap flashing through the green. She’s part of it, bringing those microscopic whispers into these sprawling, vibrant places.” https://www.annpetitehk.com
