Artists from 61 countries competed in the 2024 WORLD ART AWARDS where 20 of the most revered galleries in the world were sent online images to score in drawing, painting, sculpture, digital and photography. The 300+ winning works, 1st to 6th Place (and ties) in all 50 categories, will be revealed in this column one category at a time, and also an upcoming movie.

The WINNERS in CATEGORY 4. CHARCOAL/INK/GRAPHITE – FIGURE represent ITALY, CHINA, SWITZERLAND, SRI LANKA, NIGERIA, JAPAN, INDONESIA, ZAMBIA, USA & CANADA.

BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER:

Giuseppe Bucci, born in Foggia, Italy, has had a passion for drawing since childhood. After scientific studies, he tried his hand at hyperrealistic drawing and only in 2021, he decided to attend the workshop of a great Italian artist, Emanuele Dascanio. Since then, graphite and charcoal have become daily practice tools in the service of a technique, hatching, that demands time, patience and dedication, as it requires no tools for shading, but only the use of pencils. This technique is a tool to keep mind, hand and heart together. Darkness and light are essential elements in the conception of drawing: darkness is the essence of matter, light its shape.
