Artists from 61 countries competed in the 2024 WORLD ART AWARDS where 20 of the most revered galleries in the world were sent online images to score in drawing, painting, sculpture, digital and photography. The 300+ winning works, 1st to 6th Place (and ties) in all 50 categories, have been revealed in this column one category at a time.

BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER: Alan Stecker

1963: Received a B.A. degree from Florida State University in Fine Art/ Painting.

1965: Earned an M.F.A. degree in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design.

1971 to 1987: Editor and Photojournalist for NBC News. I traveled throughout the world and covered an amazing spectrum of breaking news events and in-depth feature stories, which include national and international politics, civil rights, natural disasters, human conflict, combat, etc., which aired on the Today Show, Nightly News, and the NBC Magazine Shows. My stories were awarded Emmy’s, the Edward R. Morrow Award, and in 1980 a Peabody Award.

1987 to 2009: In Atlanta, launched ASV Productions. As executive producer and senior director/director of photography I broadened my production experience on a diversified genre of film and video productions.

2000 to 2005: I joined the television news and production faculty at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

2005 to 2009: I worked with International Media Consultants to help launch 24-hour independent news channels in India, Pakistan, and Serbia.

2005 to 2012: In collaboration with UGA’s Institute of Gerontology and ASV Productions I produced, directed, and wrote a series of documentaries on the subject of successful aging.
