The WORLD ART AWARDS winners in CATEGORY 35: REALISM —LANDSCAPE live in SLOVAKIA, USA, CHINA, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH AFRICA, LEBANON, POLAND, PHILIPPINES, CROATIA & CUBA.

Artists from 79 countries competed in the 2023 WORLD ART AWARDS where 20 of the most revered galleries in the world were sent online images to score in drawing, painting, sculpture, digital and photography.

BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER: Multi-award-winning Michal Straška

Born in Slovakia, 1980. I now operate in my home village Horne Oresany in a downhill of the mountains Little Carpathians. I spent most of my childhood free time in the intimate forests with my friends playing various games and observing nature and sky during day and night time. These experiences also influence my art career.

I started with art in November 2009. First drawings were portraits, where I practiced different age-faces from babies to old people. But I changed my interest in the depiction of landscapes and city motives. In my artworks I draw reality with my own vision. Through different techniques and perspectives I adjust on a plain paper third dimension, which brings an effect to a viewer, that he is a part of a drawn scenery. In some artworks I also depict the next dimension — moving. The thing I like in these kinds of sceneries is the contrast between static and dynamic objects in the drawing.

I mostly draw from reference photos, which I have taken by myself during my journeys. All is about observing and perception of reality and quick transformation of visual signals to different associations.

As I start to draw artwork, I go area by area of the reference picture. At the beginning I start with raw forms and then continue with drawing till tiny details in it. This way I go through the whole artwork until it is all done and prepared to send to the world and to make the joyfulness to the final collector during his whole life. To complete an artwork in 58x40cm size takes around 150–250hrs. The collector doesn’t buy only a thing, he buys also a part of my heart, a part of my soul and part of my life too. www.michalstraska.com
