The WORLD ART AWARDS winners in CATEGORY 30: POP live in GERMANY, USA, ITALY, FRANCE, CANADA, RUSSIA & IRAN.

Artists from 79 countries competed in the 2023 WORLD ART AWARDS where 20 of the most revered galleries in the world were sent online images to score in drawing, painting, sculpture, digital and photography.

BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER: Susanne Reske

“I do not only paint what is recognizable at first glance, I also paint the story behind the external appearance.”

Susanne Reske is a contemporary abstract and pop art mixed media artist who has won national and international art awards. She lives at the Lake of Constance / Germany.

In addition to studying social pedagogy, she completed her studies in fine arts. Among other things, the artist creates contemporary portraits that contain a distinctive style between figuration and abstraction. Susanne Reske is interested in the history, the biography and the individual personality of the person to be depicted. This researched knowledge flows into her large-format portraits as colored expression and emotion through various techniques.

Her works of art are thus not an exclusive depiction of reality, but at the same time an expression of what is hidden behind the first impression. Influenced by her social pedagogical studies, her contemporary works also deal with socially critical, ecological and female specific topics of the present and the past.

In her paintings she often works with acrylic, graphite, tissue paper, paper and experiments freely with different textures. Her works are shown in national and international solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad. www.atelier-kunst-fluss.de

BIO OF 1ST PLACE WINNER: Joey Maas is a prolific neo pop artist based in Palm Springs, California. Maas’ early artistic influences stem from his love of 1980’s design, fashion, and skateboarding, in particular, the work of Patrick Nagel, Swatch watches, Memphis style design, and shopping malls. Maas spent most of the 90’s and early 2000’s touring as a musician in punk and post-punk bands, but in 2008, he decided to leave the touring life to focus on visual art.

All works are hand painted acrylic on wood panel, with a top coat of UV resistant crystal clear epoxy resin. Maas’ work has attracted collectors worldwide, including members of Mastadon, The Go-Go’s, TSOL, Slipknot, Johanna Went, Gala Darling, David Oman, and more.

Joey Maas’ work has also appeared on local and national television programs such as Ghost Adventures, KTLA CW News, Los Angeles, Portlandia, and KCAL CBS News, Los Angeles, as well as a solo exhibit for the red carpet premiere of House At The End Of The Drive (2013) www.joeymaas.com
