Each year the American Art Awards board selects the 25 Best Galleries And Museums In America.

HighlightHollywood.com reported in 2016: “The impressive AAA board chooses only one museum or gallery per state per year. Their selections are based on years established, industry reputation, online buzz, location, size, socially relevant exhibits, motivational and educational programs, represented artists as well as artist, client and visitor references.”

American Art Awards: “We consider thousands of the most established art venues from Alaska to Florida. This year we chose several museums and art centers with historical significance of 100+ years, some with over 100,000 annual visitors, some specializing in global acquisitions, some American treasures, others objects preserving their state’s legacy, and some celebrating one specific artist’s life work. We’ve also selected some of the most reputable art galleries; some which offer every style of international art, others exhibiting works from one region or one genre. A Native-American and an African-American facility are included in our Top 25, as well as a longstanding women’s design institution, a popular Boston sculptor’s co-op, and a Hollywood Warhol hot spot.”

The Museum Of Wisconsin Art won the distinction of Best Gallery Or Museum In Wisconsin, 2018, and one of American Art Awards 25 Best American Galleries / Museums, 2018.

American Art Awards: “MOWA is a feast for the eyes. This 32,000 SF museum houses a spectacular atrium, five permanent collection galleries, three temporary exhibition spaces and many educational classrooms offering innovative programming. Over 5,000 works of contemporary and historic art by more than 350 artists in one of the most stunning structures in America.”

MOWA: “Everyone’s a member at the Museum of Wisconsin Art. The concept is rather simple: welcome everyone to the museum as a member. It’s a model that defies the idea that museums are exclusive or elitist. Instead, museum admission fees are actually low cost memberships that allow unlimited access to the museum for a full year. This policy encourages frequent participation in MOWA’s exhibitions, programs, and activities throughout the year and deepens engagement with patrons. The result is a welcoming and engaged community — a community where everyone is a member.”

In 2013, the museum opened a new 32,000-square-foot facility along the banks of the Milwaukee River. The wedge-shaped structure connects to the vibrant downtown shops and restaurants of with a contemporary white footbridge. The building and surrounding space provide a stunning home for MOWA’s collection and ample opportunities for artists.

MOWA features more than 18 rotating exhibitions and 175+ “always free for members” programs annually at its main campus in West Bend and its satellite location at Saint John’s On The Lake in Milwaukee. Each week offers drop in art making for all ages during Studio Saturdays, Express Talks, opportunities to meet artists in the galleries, and more. There’s always something new happening at MOWA and members can visit as frequently as they wish.

In May 2018, MOWA’s surrounding four-acre green spaces will transform into a spectacularly landscaped cultural campus, creating a must-see destination in the heart of downtown West Bend. The plan calls for an open field for activities and festivals, 800 quaking aspen trees, 1,200 hydrangeas, outdoor sculptures, and interconnected walkways perfect for wayfinding or meandering. The campus will encourage a variety of leisure, recreational, and creative activities from kite flying and biking to music making and just hanging out.

The last weekend of July, MOWA presents a free, outdoor art festival, Art & Chalk Fest. A juried selection of 60+ Wisconsin artists line the museum grounds selling their artwork to festival goers. Chalk artists travel from across the nation to create ephemeral masterpieces and to provide incredible live entertainment. The festival free entry to the museum for the weekend, art activities for all ages, live music, food trucks and vendors, and a beer garden. Art & Chalk Fest is the event of the summer.
