For the past 11 years, American Art Awards has decided the 25 Best Galleries and Museums in America. Among the criteria: years in business, industry reputation, online activity, location, size, exhibits, educational programs, represented artists and references from artists, clients and visitors. Only one per state per year is selected.

American Art Awards: “The Hilliard Gallery has been one of the oldest and largest fine art galleries in Kansas City for 45 years. Their staff and overall reputation is excellent, and their exhibits excel with an ongoing roster of 200 innovative artists and publishers. Kansas City Visitor Center consistently ranks it as the Best Gallery In Kansas City, as does Kansas City Magazine. American Art Awards agrees and we select Hilliard Gallery the Best Gallery In Missouri, 2019, and one of our 25 Best Galleries In The nation, 2019.”

HISTORY

Established in November of 1974, by previous owner Kent Hilliard. Located initially in the heart of the Country Club Plaza, the Hilliard Gallery in its second year of operation became the exclusive authorized dealer for artist LeRoy Neiman in the Kansas City area, and they still are today.

The Hilliard Gallery is an elegantly urban and ever changing gallery. In March 2004, Hilliard Gallery moved to their current 7,000 sq ft facility in the crossroads art district.

CURRENT SHOW : 12th Annual Contemporary Figurative Show.

This juried show consist of artwork from 40 different artists representing facets of today’s society. The artwork in this show consists of enormous diversity in materials, techniques, beliefs, and notions of beauty. Show runs through May 31st.

UPCOMING SHOWS:

May 3rd, 6pm-9pm (show runs to June 29): “Love Letters to Tensas Parish” works by sculpture/writer Guinotte Wise. In a paean to childhood days in St. Joe, Louisiana, Guinotte Wise’s sculpture show at The Hilliard Gallery, is named “A Love Letter to Tensas Parish.” The work reflects time spent and things seen in the bucolic delta town and surrounding area during an impressionable period of Wise’s boyhood. John Paul Drum and The Big Three will play southern blues, and refreshments inspired by the theme will be served.

June 7th (runs through July 26th). The gallery will be show casing the photo realistic figurative paintings of Lacey Lewis. By focusing on reemerging burlesque subculture in her recent works, Lacey Lewis explores female sexuality in a third-wave feminist context. This paradigm renders the desires of men irrelevant: The burlesque artist does not create a strip-tease in order to play to the male gaze, nor does she shirk to avoid it. Rather, she performs for own fulfillment and self expression.
