Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center At Colorado College Named Best Gallery Or Museum In Colorado By American Art Awards

Each year the American Art Awards board selects the 25 Best Galleries And Museums In America.

American Art Awards: “We consider thousands of the most established art venues from Alaska to Florida. This year we chose several museums and art centers with historical significance of 100+ years, some with over 100,000 annual visitors, some specializing in global acquisitions, some American treasures, others offering objects preserving their state’s legacy, and some celebrating one specific artist’s life work. We’ve also selected some of the most reputable art galleries; some which offer every style of international art, others exhibiting works from one region or one genre. The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College won the distinction of Best Gallery Or Museum In Colorado, 2018, and one of American Art Awards 25 Best American Galleries / Museums, 2018.

American Art Awards explains, “The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College is home to an accredited museum, a professional theatre company, and a community art school. The 132,286 square foot facility hosts major international traveling and special exhibitions, and also features works from the FAC’s significant permanent collection of Native American, Hispanic, Modern American, and European art. HISTORY:

Built in 1936, the facility emerged out of and expanded on the mission of the esteemed Broadmoor Art Academy, founded in 1919, to become one of the only multi-discipline arts institutions in the nation. For nearly 100 years, the FAC has been the top cultural attraction of the Pikes Peak region.

American Art Awards: “This is essentially an entire arts district under one roof: a nationally accredited museum, a professional theatre company, and a year-round art school for all ages and skill levels. They exhibit the world’s treasures in their galleries, produce award-winning and critically-acclaimed theatre productions along with special performances, stand-up comedy acts and concerts in their theaters, and offer year-round art classes and theatre training programs taught by revered instructors.”

CSFAC MISSION: To elevate the individual spirit and inspire community vitality through performing and visual arts and arts education. To provide innovative, educational and multidisciplinary, multidimensional arts experiences, building upon our history as a unique cultural pillar of the Rocky Mountain region.

MUSEUM: The 2007 museum addition, designed by nationally recognized architect David Owen Tryba, complements and enhances the original, historic structure designed by New Mexican architect John Gaw Meem in 1936. The 132,286 square-foot facility hosts major international traveling and changing exhibitions and features works from the FAC’s significant permanent collection including an unprecedented Tactile Gallery.

The Fine Arts Center museum has curated significant exhibitions dedicated to historic and contemporary regional art. The FAC Legacy Series celebrates the art that continues to represent the spirit of Colorado and the American West through solo exhibitions of work by artists who have worked and/or taught at the FAC.
