History of Largo Art Gallery

Largo Art Gallery was founded in Varna, Bulgaria on November 27, 2008 by two enthusiasts that love art — Nelly Valcheva and Jordan Petkov. It is a family project and has been developed over the years by its two founders with great love and dedication. The gallery presents contemporary art and works with artists from all over the world and from all generations.

Their mission is to support the revival of spirituality in Bulgarian society, as art is an ancient human need, and through their work they make it accessible to everyone. Their goal is to contribute to the popularization of the names and works of talented Bulgarian artists and to be able to touch the hearts of as many people as possible through their artworks.

Largo Art Gallery actively participates with in the cultural life of Varna city and the country with its substantial exhibition calendar and with organizing interesting cultural events and projects. The gallery actively partners with cultural institutions from Varna, the country and abroad in the creation of sustainable and innovative cultural practices.

The team of Largo Art Gallery carefully selects artists using three important criteria:

- they create with extreme passion and love;
- their work fits well into their Art Depot, in the character and style of the gallery;
- they create their works with dedication and respect for their work and the audience.

The Space

From July 1, 2012 Largo Art Gallery got its own home, located in the heart of Varna, in its most artistic and prestigious part — the Greek neighborhood- a place, bringing together the good energies of the past and the energy of the present. The gallery is a few meters from the Roman baths, 5 minutes walk from the Sea Garden and the center of Varna, in an area with many cultural and architectural landmarks.

The gallery spreads over 155 square meters, including two large halls on the ground floor and the lower level, an office and a depot. The upper level is on the ground floor of a corner building, facing two streets with huge windows, 2.50 meters high and 15 meters long. This helps to expose the paintings in beautiful daylight and provides access to the exhibited works even during non-working hours of the gallery. Thanks to an innovative architectural solution, the basement hall also has natural daylight, but at the same time has a more chamber and cozy space, used for permanent exhibition of works from the gallery depot.

World Art Awards: “This year we awarded revered historical art establishments having the highest standards of curatorial excellence presenting endless inventories of blue-chip Old Master originals, placing works in top collections across the globe. We also selected many newer hot-spot galleries setting trends with hyperrealism, digital and AI works, demonstrating community-focused workshops and panel discussions bridging the gap between aesthetic expression and pressing societal issues.

“All our Top 20 Galleries have rotating schedules of diverse exhibitions, a few partner with corporations, a number also publish annual catalogues of their exceptional international rosters and the majority actively participate at significant global gatherings akin to Art Basel, Frieze and TEFAF Maastricht.

“We opted for many high-rated private galleries in disparate countries representing important young work, from painting to digital to photography to sculpture. All these galleries are a vital part of the international art forum while focusing on advancing their regional artists, be they Austrian, Bulgarian, Cypriot, Israeli, Mexican, Moroccan or from the American Southwest.

“We honored the largest gallery in Arizona, a 20,000 square foot Sedona mystical temple displaying the finest of every style with emphasis on cutting-edge spiritual art, as does our Bulgarian winner.

“We chose a renowned three-story London showplace exhibiting heralded contemporary Eastern and Western art and also Australia’s premier glassworks facility. We selected a Florida institution which has expanded to four locations, equaling 20,000 square feet giving it the largest exhibition space in South Florida with close proximity to Art Basel & Art Miami.

“We selected the only gallery in Taiwan that has focused on the art of photography for over 17 years with high-ranking photographers from the region as well as from Germany, Britain, France, Poland, Japan, South Korea, USA and China. We also decided on large, modern art facilities in Denmark, England, Morocco and USA with influential international presences.”
