Painters, photographers, sculptors and digital artists from 62 countries competed in the most prestigious online art call, AMERICAN ART AWARDS, https://www.americanartawards.com/, where America’s 25 best galleries and museums score art in 50 categories. In this column, I’ll reveal the world’s best contemporary artists of 2020 one category at a time.

Winners in this category are from USA, Greece, Venezuela and Russia.

BIO OF FIRST PLACE WINNER: Kathleen Miles

is a New York City based artist whose focus is digital media, and also works with traditional media using acrylic and gouache paints. Her digital paintings are bold and colorful abstracts with geometric elements, as well as painterly details and textures that are revealed when viewed at close range. Patterns and forms are repeated, but the iterations vary conveying energy, movement and rhythm, pulsing directionally to move the viewer through the painting. Her work has been selected to be a part of many juried international and national invitational exhibitions in New York City galleries, as well as galleries and art venues outside of the city and in other parts of the United States. Recently she was invited to exhibit at the First Street Gallery in New York City, the 61st Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Chautauqua, N.Y., and Pushing Paper/Works on Paper at the Dutchess County Art Association/Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. She has received numerous awards for her digital art including First Place in the Contemporary Art Gallery Online 2019 All Photography/Digital Exhibition, and Special Merit awards from Light Space & Time Art Gallery.

Each May the American Art Awards organization selects the 25 Best Galleries and Museums in America, then in autumn these revered art institutions vote on online art to decide the world’s best contemporary artists.
