Painters, photographers, sculptors and digital artists from 62 countries competed in the most prestigious online art call, AMERICAN ART AWARDS, https://www.americanartawards.com/, where America’s 25 best galleries and museums score art in 50 categories. In this column, I’ll reveal the world’s best contemporary artists of 2020 one category at a time.

Category 9 winners are from Belgium, Brazil, USA, Great Britain, Russia, Canada, Georgia and Haiti.

BIO OF FIRST PLACE WINNER IBAN VAN DER ZEYP:

I was born in 1969 in Mortsel, Belgium. I have an artistic family, with photographers, musicians, a painter and a fashion designer, so creating is in my blood. I attended art high school, where I developed the base of what would become my own style: curvism. The first years after graduation were tough, trying to make a name for myself while earning a living doing tedious jobs. In 1997 I held a solo exhibition that put me on the map, at least locally, and I’ve been a professional painter ever since. www.facebook.com/iban.curvisme
